Prayer for Safety in This Moment

CPTSD Recovery Prayer for Calm & Grounding

This is a short prayer for safety in this moment. You can use it in the morning, in the evening, or anytime your body feels overwhelmed or on edge.

In this moment,
I remind myself:
I am here.
I am breathing.
I am safe enough right now.

My body may be alert.
My mind may be scanning.
I do not judge this.

These responses were learned
when danger was real.
They are not a failure.
They are not a flaw.

I gently orient to the present.
I notice where I am.
I notice the support beneath me.
I notice that this moment
is not the past.

Nothing is chasing me.
Nothing is required of me
right now.

I give my nervous system
permission
to soften just a little.

I do not force calm.
I do not demand peace.
I allow safety
to arrive at its own pace.

Breath by breath,
I return.

If fear arises,
I meet it with kindness.
If tension remains,
I let it stay
without adding resistance.

I remind myself:
I survived.
I am here.
And in this moment,
I am safe enough.

I place this body,
this mind,
this heart
in gentle care.

And for now,
that is enough.

May this moment
be held in quiet safety.

And so it is.

More Recovery Support & Resources

Recovery is not something you have to do alone.

Alongside prayer and inner work, basic support matters.

Foundational recovery support may include:

  • Professional support when needed (medical care, therapy, counselling)
  • A nurturing support system (trusted people, community, safe connection)
  • A safe place to rest at night (sleep, warmth, regular meals)
  • Gentle nourishment (hydration, simple balanced food)
  • Basic hygiene and daily care (washing, clean clothes, routine)
  • Rest, pacing, and kindness toward yourself
  • Small, consistent self-care rather than perfection

Healing happens best when safety, care, and support are present.

If you need immediate / URGENT emotional support in South Africa:
  • SADAG Suicide Crisis Line (24/7, toll-free): 0800 567 567
  • LIFELINE National Counselling Line (24/7): 0861 322 322
If you are in immediate danger, please seek emergency medical care or contact local emergency services.

You matter. Support is allowed. Rest is part of healing.

The Serenity Prayer asks for three things: the composure to accept what cannot be changed, the strength to change what can be changed, and the discernment to know which is which.

Complete Serenity Prayer:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.
