In recent years, the quest for natural health solutions has brought ancient remedies back into the spotlight. One such remarkable discovery is the Lions Mane mushroom (Hericium erinaceus). Renowned for its distinctive appearance and medicinal properties, this mushroom offers a host of benefits, particularly in supporting trauma recovery. Whether you are dealing with physical injury or emotional stress, incorporating Lions Mane mushroom into your routine can significantly enhance your healing journey.

The Science Behind Lions Mane

Lions Mane mushroom is a powerful nootropic, revered for its ability to support cognitive function and nervous system health. Its active compounds, hericenones and erinacines, stimulate the production of nerve growth factor (NGF). NGF is crucial for the maintenance, growth, and survival of neurons, the nerve cells responsible for processing and transmitting information in the brain and nervous system.

Supporting Cognitive Recovery

Trauma, whether physical or emotional, often leaves a lasting impact on cognitive function. Memory lapses, difficulty concentrating, and mental fatigue are common complaints. Lions Mane mushroom has been shown to enhance neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to reorganise itself by forming new neural connections. This ability is particularly beneficial for individuals recovering from traumatic brain injuries or suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Clinical studies have demonstrated that regular consumption of Lions Mane can improve cognitive function, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and even protect against neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s. By supporting brain health at a cellular level, Lions Mane provides a natural and effective way to regain mental clarity and emotional balance.

Physical Healing and Nervous System Support

Beyond its cognitive benefits, Lions Mane mushroom also plays a significant role in physical recovery. It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, common issues following physical trauma. Additionally, its ability to enhance NGF production aids in the repair and regeneration of nerve cells, making it an excellent supplement for individuals recovering from spinal cord injuries or surgeries.

Emotional Resilience and Stress Management

Trauma often brings a heavy emotional burden, leading to stress, anxiety, and depression. The calming effects of Lions Mane can help stabilise mood and improve emotional resilience. By reducing inflammation in the brain and supporting overall neurological health, this mushroom helps create a more balanced and stable mental state, allowing individuals to cope better with stress and emotional upheaval.

28 Days to a NEW LIFE! (Day 08)

8. Can you eat better?

Write your typical daily / weekly consumption of food, drinks and/or other substances.
Maintaining a healthy and appropriate diet for what we need to fuel our daily lives is essential. Body chemistry, besides environmental and social stressors, has pretty much ONLY the food we put into our bodies to work with.
If changes need be made, start small and do not try to switch it all up in onde day or even one week. You can copy your current daily/weekly diet onto a sheet and stick it on the fridge to peruse as you go about your life.
Commit to making tiny, easy changes as you are ready. Switch up the habits one by one by maybe just replacing one unwanted eating habit with something healthy at a time.
Celebrate by updating your default list, sticking the new and updated one on the fridge and going again until you are happy that you are nourishing your body in the best way possible.

28 Days to a NEW LIFE! (Day 07)

7. Where does your energy flow to?

Similar to the previous question on who you spend most time with, ask yourself, “WHERE IS MY MIND most of the time?” What are you always thinking about? What occupies your mind most of the time? Identify 3 topics.
These are the trains of thought you board every day and they lead you to somewhere, usually the same stations, every day, repetitively.
Now ask yourself if ending at these same stations every day is serving you and the life you wish to create? If no, then give a thought (and write!) what you would rather be focusing on.
Place reminders, like sticky notes or a notification on your mobile devices, to start shifting this mind habit on a daily basis. If you are happy with where your trains of thought are going every day, celebrate your mind power by sharing your life experiences in some way. There are many who might benefit!

28 Days to a NEW LIFE! (Day 06)

6. Who are you spending most of your time with?

Write down the 5 people or environments you spend most of your time with.
Take a good look at your list and ask (or write) the good, the bad and the ugly for what you experience when you are with them. Become aware that over time we become like the people we spend most of our time with.
If changes need to be made for you to live your best life going forward, make a commitment to yourself today to upgrade this list.
If it’s all good and you are happy to become like them, do something to express gratitude and appreciation to them and keep the happy flow going!
