Prayer for Seeing with Kindness
Recovery Prayer for Self-Compassion & Perspective
This is a short prayer for seeing with kindness. You can use it in the morning, in the evening, or anytime judgment feels loud.
Today,
I am willing to pause
before I decide what things mean.
I notice the stories my mind creates.
I notice the judgments that arise.
I do not shame myself for them.
These stories once helped me survive.
They do not need to lead me now.
I ask for a kinder lens.
Not a dishonest one.
Not a naive one.
A kinder one.
I am willing to see myself
with more understanding.
I am willing to see others
with less certainty.
I release the need
to be right
in order to be safe.
If I feel triggered,
I remember:
this is information,
not a verdict.
I allow space
between what happens
and how I respond.
I choose curiosity
over condemnation.
Compassion
over control.
If I misinterpret,
I can pause.
If I react,
I can repair.
I remind myself:
perception can change
without the past being erased.
For this moment,
I soften my view.
I let kindness
lead the way.
And so it is.

More Recovery Support & Resources
Recovery is not something you have to do alone.
Alongside prayer and inner work, basic support matters.
Foundational recovery support may include:
- Professional support when needed (medical care, therapy, counselling)
- A nurturing support system (trusted people, community, safe connection)
- A safe place to rest at night (sleep, warmth, regular meals)
- Gentle nourishment (hydration, simple balanced food)
- Basic hygiene and daily care (washing, clean clothes, routine)
- Rest, pacing, and kindness toward yourself
- Small, consistent self-care rather than perfection
Healing happens best when safety, care, and support are present.

The Serenity Prayer asks for three things: the composure to accept what cannot be changed, the strength to change what can be changed, and the discernment to know which is which.
Complete Serenity Prayer:
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.
